You have probably heard of NaNoWriMo. This is much like it: Write a text of at least 10,000 words during October. The completed text must be sent to SC staff to be published here in steelychallenge.wordpress.com. (or then again not that certainly to be published, I don’t remember seeing any of last year’s stories except my own -S)

Additional rules for the ‘08 challenge

• The protagonist is planning suicide.
• Fairies are an important part of the story.
• Write a scene where a shard of glass gets stuck in a girl’s foot.
• The story is set in a well.
